This is actually a petticoat!

A wonderful example of how fancy detail was infused into the petticoats of The Era!
Today, one would only find tulle.  What a shame...

At first glance, we were excited, thinking we were seeing a petticoat which might very well form the exciting 'bell-shaped' skirt of The Era, since the caption reads 'petticoat.'  The skirt even sports a very stark 90° angle from the bodice!

But, alas!  It actually appears to be a gown, no?  The caption must refer to an attendant image, which was cut away...  And the mysterious petticoat remains an enigma.

When going to the prom in The Era, gowns had some distinctiveness!

A visitor sends along this image with a note that it is from a "new lingerie line." (?!)

A Google search nets this site - 'Swan's Tale' seems a bit different there.  Appears it is just unimpressive tulle.
Only in this version do the pastel panties (knickers) save the day, as it were...makes one yearn for the fifties, when
creativity was more, shall we say...'creative.'
