Nils offers these delightful pictures taken on a windy day on
The Empire State Building's observation platform in the 50s
Elizabeth writes:
"This picture was taken in Frontierland at the Anaheim, California Disneyland. There are numerous clues:
The two models are as wholesome as can be (normal Disney attribute);
the wooden tower with the Kentucky long rifles in the gun ports;
the cavalry flags (to the right of the tower);
the safety banister over the water;the wooden walkway has the edges uniformly lined up;
the wooden walkway boards are close fitting; and, the electric light (left margin of the picture).(Note: The tower gun ports have long since been closed up and there are no longer any firearms visible.)"

Circa 1960, from
PondGirl Allison:"It looks windy. How do I know? What did we do when the wind picked up ? We never checked our skirt first; it was always our hair. How's my hair?"
From Stephen K.:
"The cover of a compilation of 'naughty' pictures from the days when that meant
seeing a girl's petticoats or knickers, but not nudity; reprinted in the 1970s."
(below) 'Captain Marno' has sent these nostalgic images, possibly from Spick or Span
Here is one great example of the way petticoats were lovingly designed at one time
