Petticoats and Crinolines in Films
Please take notice: These films mostly contain lovely visions of bouffant skirts, particularly of the 50's style, and MIGHT show peeks of petticoats. Very few show full petti-views (these will be noted). We are also now adding films which feature classic crinolines and petticoat as well. You might also review the corsetfilm list located here.
Many of the corset-era productions show gowns and petticoats as well!
Any rating comments obviously refer to the quality of the film vis-à-vis frou-frou

1994 | IMAGINARY CRIMES
-- The film, set in
1962 Oregon, has a marvelous scene in which the young Balk character
parades around in the living room wearing her mother's petticoats and does
a little dance. Then, she sits beside her petticoated mother on the couch
and primps! It has everything I love and dream about. Beautiful pettislips, school uniforms, PJs little cowgirl costumes. Mary Beth Sanford would have a time of her life. The younger daughter wears a charming taffeta plaid party dress I would die for. Review by 'Satin Slip' |

1959 | IMITATION OF LIFE -- Bouffant dresses, and a great show of pettis after the graduation scene (the camera actually focuses upward!) Ms. Dee puts on quite a display as she is dressing for company and is putting on her shoes with lots of petticoat flying. | SANDRA DEE

"This picture of Ms. Moreau shows her, in character, lying down and trying to cool off (note her legs are raised and the hem of her skirt is above her knees) while fanning herself with a silk Oriental fan. (The action in the movie is supposed to have taken place in the hot and humid Far East.)" - Jim C. |

1963 | IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD'S FAIR -- This Elvis film stars an adorable little Asian girl who wears some cute “little girl” outfits (There are many opportunities to see her petti peeking out!). 1956 | IT'S NEVER TOO LATE-- About half an hour into the film, there's a scene with the daughter (called Tessa). She comes down the stairs in a double layer white (paper nylon?) petticoat and white "merry widow". We get a good view of her petticoat; she is carrying her dress. She comes into the front room and asks her gran to do up the petticoat (It has a draw string). Then she puts on the very full skirted dress which has two net petticoats attached, of which we also get a good view. She's then zipped up, and a bit later we get a full view of this beautiful dress. Earlier in the film, Tessa jumps over a banister and lands in a chair on the other side, and we get views of petticoats then as well. So, I can say that this British film is highly recommended!-- Review by Janet | SUSAN STEPHEN
