"Here are three short videos from the British Pathe film archive which provides an interesting insight into social history.
How things have changed in just 50 years!"

Lounging in nylon

Bouncing flounces (The petticoat action starts at approximately 35 seconds)

It's 'snowing down south' ... straight slips, but an amusing reflection of the times.

Kristi:  "Here is a link for making a crinoline skirt for a costume. This is a child's skirt, but it could be scaled up easily.
It's not very full, obviously, but looks like it could be made a bit fuller with some attention, and still not take too long."

Author Sheryl Turner:

"I would like to bring to your attention an eBook that came out recently, entitled Desiree.
It's about a young woman being hurled into a fantasy setting and having to endure some sexually-
provocative trials for her to leave. There's lots of mentions of petticoats throughout the work and it's a
great bargain at 99 cents. You can purchase the book
hereAt right is an image of the main character."

A note from Joe A.:

"I think devotees of The Pond should be aware of something new: YouTube has introduced a function where it is possible to change the speed of what you are viewing.  There is fortunately an abundance of videos with petticoat content on YouTube, and it is now possible often to watch an original sequence from a 1958 movie, in HD, and slow the speed of the important parts to 1/4!  To see an original 1950's petticoat swirling out at very slow speed, so we can see all the detail of the lovely net, ribbon and  lace, is something we could only of dreamt of even a year ago."

Micael
points to an extremely interesting, and VERY useful video

Denise makes a good point regarding the above video: "A word of caution.  I've been advised more than once at square dance shops never to store petticoats fully enclosed
in plastic for long, as they will go flat. One end should be left open. They need to breathe. Packing like in the video for just a few hours shouldn't be a problem."
